Presenting Data on Housing Affordability and Supply Challenges in Chicago

IHS’s mission is to provide reliable, impartial, and timely data and research to inform policy decisions and discussions regarding the state of housing in the Chicago region and nationally. One of the ways IHS accomplishes this mission is by presenting the Institute's research to a broad range of groups working on housing- and community investment-related topics.

On May 21, 2025, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago held a webinar entitled Building for Affordability: Exploring Housing Supply Strategies in Chicago. The event brought together various housing experts to discuss supply-related challenges within Chicago’s housing market. As part of the webinar, IHS Executive Director Geoff Smith gave a presentation that explores affordability trends and supply challenges using IHS data.

The webinar is available to watch on the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's website. The presentation slides are available here.
